On behalf of the Belmar School District administration, faculty, and staff, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our students and their families during the 2016-17 school year. We believe that the foundation of our students’ future successes will be found in the power of our combined efforts and the strength of our relationships.
Our challenge is to embrace the future of the 21st century and ensure that our students are prepared to become leaders in this dynamic new world. In order to accomplish this monumental task, we must provide a high level of personalization in every aspect of a student’s school experience, a proud recognition for individual and group accomplishments, and an unwavering commitment to the development of character and civic responsibility in our youth.
This year, our district will continue to implement the initiatives set forth in our five-year strategic plan. These initiatives, developed in collaboration with our internal and external school community, include the implementation of 1:1 Chromebooks for students in grades five through eight, and increasing the mobile device ratio for students in grades Kindergarten through four in an effort to expand the opportunities for “anytime/anywhere” learning for our students.
We continue to align our curriculum with the expectations and rigor of the new Common Core Standards, as well as prepare both teachers and students for the upcoming PARCC assessments, which will measure more accurately students' ability to think critically and apply learned skills to relevant and practical applications to the world around them. Our English Language Arts curriculum will include the adoption of the new Journeys series, which will afford our students a greater breadth of literacy experiences and challenge them to ask questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. This stresses critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in college, career, and life.
