Reader's Theater Podcast
Edgar Allan Poe
Collaborative Lesson with Language Arts, Music & Computers

ASSIGNMENT:

Language Arts Class
You will be assigned a short story or poem by Edgar Allan Poe to read with a group. Groups will be assigned in class too.

Music Class
You will learn how to make a variety of sound effects using various instruments and tools.  You will record some of your own sound effects in Audacity that will be used later to enhance your Reader's Theater Podcast.

Computer Class
You will use Audacity to record your short story or poem in your assigned groups.  You will then add background music and sound effects from selections we will provide.  Finally, you will add sound effects that you created on your own and recorded in music class.  Results - a very cool audio podcast enhanced with background music and special sound effects.

STEP 1

  • Create a folder on your Personal Network Drive called “Poe Podcast”

  • Your group will work together to read your short story or poem in Audacity.

    • Save the PROJECT - File - Save Project as - in your Personal Folder - "Raven_Group Name"

    • Keep the background noise level down while recording

    • Read clearly, not too fast, PAUSE AT THE COMMAS and at THE END OF EACH LINE
Use a creative tone of voice like you are acting out the part on the stage!

    • If you make a MISTAKE - pause - repeat where you made the mistake and then you can TRIM the mistake out later. INSTEAD OF STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN!

    • RECOMMENDED - If you have a long poem, you can read it in parts.  When you are done you can combine the parts together before you export as an MP3.

  • When you are finished and satisfied with your recording - save as MP3

    •  File – Export as Mp3

    • Export the project to your personal folder - the name of the story or poem, and the group name (ex. FINAL RECORDING_Raven_group name)

    • COPY the file from your personal folder to mine at: G:\1Mrs Lockwood\8th Poe Podcast If you don't finish today - save the Project
